Surrounded by his loving family, Thomas Everett Heckman passed peacefully from this life on May 19, 2025, at his home after a very long battle with brain cancer. He was 75. Born October 7, 1949, Tom was the youngest son of the late Chester E. and Bertha “Gates” Heckman of Hublersburg. On May 17, 1969, he married Sharon “Stump” Heckman and for 56 years they made many happy memories together.
After Tom graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1967, he worked at Murata Erie in State College. After several years he went to Cerro Metal Products in Bellefonte where he worked as Maintenance Foreman until the plant closed. After successful completion of an HVAC course, he worked for Stanley C. Bierly in Millheim until his illness forced his retirement in 2019.
Tom was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Millheim; the Millheim Fire Co. #1 and he served 4 years on the Millheim Borough Council. The two most important things in Tom’s life were spending time with his family and his activity as a volunteer fireman. Tom was an active fireman for over 50 years. He began with the Walker Township Fire Co. and after his marriage he joined the Millheim Fire Co. #1 where he served as past fire chief.
In addition to his wife Sharon, Tom is survived by sons, Michael (Kayla) and Dan (Kim): grandchildren, Katie Weber (Jake), Emma, Zachary (fiancé Julianna), Jordyn and Austin. He was preceded in death by his infant grandson, Randall.
The family would like to thank Grane Hospice Care, with a special thanks to Tom’s care team, Arlene, Ashley, Beth, Ellen and Pastor Dave for the excellent compassionate care they provided.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The funeral service will follow at noon with Pastor David Hersh officiating. Tom will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Millheim. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Tom may be given to Millheim Fire Co. #1 or to Penns Valley EMS.
