Violet Stover Obituary

 

Violet L. Stover, 96, of Millheim, passed from this life on Monday, November 5th at Valley View Haven in Belleville.  Born December 7, 1921 in Woodward, Violet was a daughter of the late Harry and Lydia (Long) Warntz.  She was a 1938 graduate of East Penns Valley High School.  On June 24, 1945 she married Russell T. Stover who preceded her in death on August 10, 2015.

Violet is survived by one daughter, Darlene Maple (Douglas) of Lemont; one son, Douglas Stover (Emily) of Herndon, VA; three grandchildren, Susanna Withers of Melrose, MA, Rebecca Lamey of State College and Kara Wiseman of Rockville, MD.  Also surviving are two great grandchildren, Julia Jane Withers of Melrose, MA and Russell Anthony Wiseman of Kensington, MD.  She was the last surviving member of her family having been preceded in death by siblings, Lida Breon, Leroy Warntz, Marian Bower, Carl Warntz and Malvin Warntz.

Violet was employed part time as a teller at the former Farmers National Bank in Millheim, and then as an administrative assistant in the Centre County office of Emergency Management, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Millheim where she was active in the choir, church council, and women's group. She was a member of the East Penns Valley Women’s Club and president of the Centre County Women’s Club.  Violet was a member of the board of the Centre County United Way and was on the board of directors at the founding of the Penns Valley Medical Center. She served on the Pennsylvania Police Officers' Education and Training Commission.

Violet enjoyed singing, bowling, walking, and playing golf with her friends.  She and Russell also traveled to 48 of the 50 United States and Europe after retirement. 

Violet and Russell were a bonded couple who faced adversity together and enjoyed a long and happy marriage. Violet was a good-hearted woman who loved her family and served her community. 

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 9th from 7-9 pm at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim.  The funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 10th at 11 am, with a one hour visitation prior to the service.  Violet will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Millheim.  Memorial contributions in memory of Violet may be given to Valley View Haven.
