William P. “Billy” Brooks, of Millheim, formerly of Rebersburg, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. He was 56. Born September 11, 1967, in Bellefonte, Billy was a son of Basil B. Brooks and the late Mona J. “Mowery” Brooks of Belleville. He was a graduate of Penns Valley Area High School.
Billy was employed as Senior Groundskeeper at the Toftrees Golf Resort in State College. He was a longtime member of the Miles Township Fire Company in Rebersburg and enjoyed playing darts, pool and softball. He also enjoyed hunting on Blue Ball Mountain as well as Rebersburg Mountain. He was a part of the Beech Creek #33 dirt track racing team. In addition to dirt track racing, he had a Cougar XR7 that he would occasionally race at Beaver Springs Dragway.
Billy was a gifted mechanic who enjoyed all things mechanical. He spent most of his life turning wrenches in some form or the other. Whenever friends or family had a problem, they always knew that “Billy can fix it!” Above all else, Billy will be remembered for his kind heart, his carefree grin, and his love for children, especially those of his family.
In addition to his father Basil, Billy is survived by two sisters, Lori Brooks Bierly of State College and Brenda L. Brooks (Fred) of Spring Mills; one brother, Rickey B. Brooks (Tammy) of Millheim; two nephews, Jon D. Brooks (Emily) of New Jersey, Mark A. Brooks (Amy) of Howard, one niece, Audrey C. Kerstetter of Spring Mills, several great nieces and nephews, and many cousins. A special acknowledgement is made to Billy’s extended Toftrees family who meant a lot to him.
Billy was preceded in death by his mother Mona J. Brooks, just hours before he passed away.
Billy will be laid to rest in the Evangelical Cemetery in Rebersburg during a private family graveside service to be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Billy may be given to Penns Valley EMS, 106 Ross Hill Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
