William J. Ettinger III, 74, of Spring Mills, passed from this life at his home on Friday, August 5, 2016. Born in Philadelphia on December 15, 1941, Bill is a son of the late William J. Ettinger II and Betty “Weems” Ettinger Snow.  He was a graduate of Bensalem High School.  Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a deckhand aboard the USS Proteus AS-19.

Bill was united in marriage to Kristeen Hereth in 1980.  Kris survives at their home in Spring Mills.  In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by two daughters, Tracy Lubinski (Frank) of Coburn and Maria Miller (Jesse) of Elyria, OH; one step-sister, Donna Colucci of FL; two half-sisters , Kara Piper and Karla Tapia, both of FL; four grandchildren, Dylan and Kiley Lubinski, Justin Wolfe, and Kaitlyn Vitovitz and two great grandchildren, Alexa Wolfe and Nick Gawne.  Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ettinger and a step brother, Rick McClain.

Bill was employed at the former Big John’s Grills in Pleasant Gap and later as a delivery driver for DHL.  He was an avid motorcycle rider, owning two bikes, a 2000 Harley and a 1970 Triumph Bonneville.  In his younger years, Bill was a regular dancer on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand from 1956-1957.  He was a member of A.B.A.T.E., the American Legion Smith Pletcher Post 779 in Centre Hall and the American Legion Riders Nittany Post 245.  Bill enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his dog Marley.  He was loved by his family and friends and will be sadly missed.

In accordance with Bill’s wishes, he will be scattered at sea by the U.S. Navy.  A Celebration of Life service will be held for Bill at the Centre Hall Legion at a date to be announced later.  Contributions in Bills memory may be given to Debbie’s Dialysis, 21 Hannah Circle, Suite 101, Waynesboro, VA 22980 or to The American Association of Kidney Patients at www.aakp.org.
