Gladys J. McCool, 86, of Spring Mills, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 9th at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born February 14, 1932 in Spring Mills, Gladys was a daughter of the late Ray H. and Marian Lingle. She attended the former Gregg Township Vocational School. On September 23, 1949, Gladys married Francis E. McCool who preceded her in death on February 8, 2013.
Gladys was a member of the New Hope Lutheran Church and a Lifetime member of the Eastern Star Lodge # 537. She was a faithful attender of TOPS for 19 years. In her earlier years she enjoyed flower gardening. She was a faithful mother who loved taking care of her husband and 5 young boys. Later on when the boys were older she was employed as a Deli Manager at the former IGA store in Millheim, where Hosterman & Stover Hardware is now. Gladys enjoyed watching and feeding the hummingbirds. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving Gladys are her five sons, Steven E. (Sharon) of Hanover, Thomas M. (Susan) of Centre Hall, Joseph D. (Deborah) of Rebersburg, Jeffrey L. (Cathy) of Milroy, and Philip K. of Madisonburg; one brother, Ray A. “Dell” Lingle (Lena) of McVeytown and, one sister, Grace E. Lingle of Madisonburg. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Shannon R. Reed, Derek S. McCool, Michelle M. Bennett, Jaimie L. McCool and Madison S. McCool; three great grandchildren, Dylan, Owen and Avery, and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Gladys was preceded in death by siblings, Marjorie Krout, Geraldine Meeker and Glenn Lingle.
Receiving of family and friends will be held on January 19th from 11am -1pm at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The memorial service will follow at 1pm with Rev. Gerald Krum officiating. Gladys will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Spring Mills at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Gladys may be given to the charity of donor’s choice.
