Glen E. Sweeley

Glen Sweeley Obituary

Surrounded by his family, Glen E. Sweeley, of Aaronsburg, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Juniper Village.  He was 90.  Born March 20, 1928 in Renovo, Glen was a son of the late Theodore R. and Mildred (Bailey) Sweeley.  He was a 1946 graduate of Gregg Township Vocational High School.  On July 14, 1949 he married Alice Musser who preceded him in death on February 9, 2008.

Glen began his working career as a farmer.  He was then employed at the former Agway in Aaronsburg from 1965-1990 and retired from there.  He went to work for Haines Township, where his responsibilities included road maintenance, snow removal and mowing grass on Township properties.  Glen also helped his neighbors with their yard mowing.  He was always will to lend anyone a hand.  Glen was an avid gardener.  He planted a large garden and gave 90% of the fruits of his labor to friends, family and neighbors.  In his younger years Glen enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the Millheim Fire Company where he sometimes helped with the annual Carnival. 

Surviving are three daughters, Carol A. Watson (William) of Pleasant Gap, Doris J. Sweeley also of Pleasant Gap, and Joyce Wilusz (Henry) of Tyrone; one son, David R. Sweeley (Helen) of Spring Mills; one granddaughter, Marcy Henninger (Lee) of Howard and two great grandchildren, Aiyana and Braxton Henninger.  Also surviving are three sisters, Alice Bloom, Anna Holderman, and Ruth Luse.  In addition to his wife, Glen was preceded in death by one son, Bryan K. Sweeley, two brothers, William and Fred Sweeley and one sister, Betty Horner. 

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, June 25th from 9-11 am at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home, followed by the funeral at 11:00 am with Pastor Teresa Hockenberry officiating.  Glen will be laid to rest in the Reformed Cemetery in Aaronsburg.  Contributions in his memory may be given to The Hope Fund of Penns Valley, Po Box 427, Centre Hall, Pa 16828 or to the Penns Valley EMS, Po Box 650, Millheim, Pa 16854.
