Ethel McGinnis Obituary

Ethel G. “Thelma” McGinnis of Spring Mills, passed away Monday, August 23, 2021.  She was 87.  Born March 6, 1934 in Duncansville, Thelma was a daughter of the late Ward and Martha “Stom” Brubaker.  She was a 1953 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School.  On September 2, 1955 in Anchorage, Alaska, Thelma married Allan C. McGinnis who preceded her in death in 2002.

Thelma retired from C-Cor Electronics after 20 years of service and during some of that time she held two full-time jobs, always doing what was needed to help provide for her family.  She was a selfless, generous soul, who was loved and adored by all that met her.  Thelma was of the Lutheran faith and a former member of the Gregg Township Ladies Auxiliary.  Thelma enjoyed sewing, vegetable and flower gardening and doing her own home maintenance.  In her younger years Thelma and Allan enjoyed camping and traveling across country in a station wagon with six kids in tow.  Oh the adventures they had.  She enjoyed cooking and baking (she was especially known for her apple pie) for her family who gathered every Sunday for dinner.

Thelma is survived by three daughters, Lee Anne Ernst (Daniel) of O’Fallon, IL, Nancy Reffner (Jerry) of Altoona and Norma McGinnis of Pleasant Gap; three sons, Scott A. McGinnis of Coburn, Michael J. McGinnis (Donna) of Marsh Creek and Vincent J. McGinnis (Mary) of Clearfield.  Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.  Thelma is the last of her family having been preceded in death by five sisters, and four brothers, along with one great grandson, Devon and a daughter in law, Margaret.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 11:00 am until 12 noon at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim.  The funeral will follow at 12 noon with Donna Reffner officiating.  Thelma will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery West in Millheim.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.stevenrnefffuneralhome.com.
