Surrounded by his family, Frederick C. Stover, 82, of Spring Mills, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Born May 11, 1941, in Spring Mills, Fred was a son of the late Seymore M. and Pauline S. “Confer” Stover. He married Nancy L. Smith on January 30, 1962. Nancy preceded him in death on September 7, 2021.
For 45 years, Fred was the owner/operator of the F.C. Stover Garage in rural Spring Mills. Fred was an avid hunter, a member of the Spring Mills Fish and Game and a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed gunsmithing, reloading shells, restoring cars and in his earlier years did some stock car racing. He also liked to watch NASCAR. Come summertime, Fred enjoyed a bit of gardening as every year he always wanted a potato and sweet corn patch.
Fred is survived by two daughters, Susan Confer (James) and Amy Stover (Calvin) both of Spring Mills: two sons, Michael Stover of Bellefonte, and Kenneth “Harv” Stover (Sara) of Morrisdale; nine grandchildren, Kristy (Craig), Asher, Katelyn, Shayne (Chelsy), Madison (Jeremy), Heath (Tara), Matt, Micki (Travis) and Tiff (Zach). Also surviving are siblings, Barbara Butts (Frank), Dolores Earnest and James Stover (Kay) along with 8 great grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by four siblings, Joyce Tressler, Diana King, and Gary and Lester Stover.
Fred will be laid to rest during a public graveside service to be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 11:00 am in Heckman Cemetery in Spring Mills. Contributions in memory of Fred may be given to Spring Mills Fish and Game, 183 Penns Creek Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
