George Luse, Jr. Obituary

George A. Luse, Jr. of Spring Mills, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.  He was 88.  Born May 2, 1934 in Bellefonte, George was a son of the late George A. Luse, Sr. and Beatrice “Brown” Luse.  He was a 1952 graduate of the former Centre Hall Potter High School.

George was a talented carpenter, mechanic, welder and part time farmer.  During his early years he was employed in construction.  Later he was employed as a welder by the Boiler Makers Union and lastly by Garbrick Amusements.  He enjoyed loading his own ammunition for hunting and his shooting hobby.  George was always repairing old farm equipment and was a willing helper to any family member or friend in need.

George was a longtime member of the Nittany Antique Machinery Association where he displayed many of his antique Case tractors and enjoyed discussions with fellow members.  He had a great appreciation for horses having spent many of his early years involved in the Rodeo circuit as a calf roper.  John, his mule, held a special place in George’s heart as well as stray cats for which he made a real effort to make sure they had access to food.

George’s mother died at childbirth, so George was raised by his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Sara Brown.  After their passing he lived with his Aunt Dorothy Decker for many years.  He was like a big brother to surviving cousins, Dick and Delbert Decker.  Other surviving cousins are Robert Luse, Fredrick, Gary and Scott Kimble, Annetta Bardo, Jane Pifer, Joanna Murphy and Hendry Garbrick along with numerous second cousins.

George will be laid to rest during a public Celebration of Life service to be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery in Centre Hall with Rev. Leroy Reitz officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of George may be given to the Penns Valley EMS, 106 Ross Hill Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875 or to the Hope Fund of Penns Valley, POB 427, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
