Jean R. Rishel, of Spring Mills went home to be with her Lord and Savior at Wynwood House at Salem Hill on Thursday, April 7, 2022. She was 91. Born March 24, 1931 in Spring Mills, Jean was a daughter of the late Thomas R. and Mariam “Bible” Grove.
Jean was first married to Lewis Stover Rossman who preceded her in death on February 28, 1988. She then married Dean Rishel, who preceded her in death on May 11, 2020. Jean worked alongside Lewis on the family farm. Later she was employed as a custodian at the former Penns Valley Medical Center, now Mount Nittany Physician Group in Spring Mills. She was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Spring Mills where she was active in the church choir. She was also a member of the Grange, and the Centre County Farm Bureau. Jean loved to bake and cook. She was famous for her sugar cookies and made wonderful mince meat and milk pies. Most of all she loved spending time with her combined families.
Jean is survived by one daughter, Bette J. Grove of Northumberland; two sons, Larry Rossman (Sandra) of Painesville, OH and Rev. Randy Rossman of Decatur, IN; one daughter in law, Barbara Rossman of Spring Mill; two siblings, Bernice Snyder and Harold Grove (Karen) both of Spring Mills; sister’s in law, Bernice Grove of Spring Mills, Virginia Grove of Zeiglerville, Helga Grove of Clarence, Phyllis Musser of Vestal, NY, Leona Haugh of Hughesville and Cindy Decker (Dick) of Centre Hall. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Stacy Roehrs (Jonathan) Scott Rossman (Alison), J.R. Rossman (Camma), Christyn Poore (Jason), Andrew Grove and Deanna Brittain (Blayne) along with ten great grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by an infant son, one son, Franklin Rossman, one grandson, Matthew Grove; one sister, Lois Rearick and four brothers, Gerald, Mylan, James and Wayne Grove. The family would like to thank the staff of Wynwood House at Salem Hill Haven for the wonderful care they provided to Jean.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Salem United Church of Christ in Spring Mills from 10:00 am -12 noon. The funeral will follow at noon with Pastor Teresa Hockenberry officiating. Jean will be laid to the in the Salem UCC Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jean may be given to the Salem UCC, c/o Peg Swartz, 638 Tattletown Road, Aaronsburg, PA 16820.
