John Matthew Hosterman

John Matthew Hosterman, formerly of Spring Mills, passed away on December 27, 2020 at Mount Nittany Medical Center due to Covid related complications.  He was 91.  Born August 8, 1929, in Spring Mills, John was a son of the late John David and Helen Sara “Smith” Hosterman.  On October 20, 1979, he married Delcie Jane Schickling who preceded him in death.

John served his country in the U.S. Army as an MP during the peacetime period after the Korean Conflict and was stationed for a time in Germany. He was a farmer and a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.  John was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Millheim.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching the news to keep up to date with current events.

John is survived by one son John W. Hosterman (Cheryl) of Tunkhannock; one brother, F. David Hosterman (Nancy) of Spring Mills; one nephew, Jeffrey D. Hosterman of Spring Mills, and four nieces, Mariam H. Yearick of Spring Mills, Susan C. Stewart of Zion, Elizabeth J. Engelhardt of West Grove and, Barbara K. Morar of State College. In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by one brother William Hosterman.

A brief visitation followed by a small service by invitation only will be held for John on January 4, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim.  John will be laid to rest in the Fairview West Cemetery also in Millheim.
