Surrounded by his loving wife and family, Larry J. Stitzer of Spring Mills went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 10, 2021 at his home. He was 80. Born October 3, 1940 in Spring Mills, Larry was a son of the late Harry Y. and Kathryn E. “Ebert” Stitzer. He was a 1958 graduate of Penns Valley Area High School. On June 12, 1965 in Coburn, Larry married the love of his life and best friend, Sandra S. Confer, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Sandy survives at their home.
Larry retired in 2006 from the former Gettig Engineering in Spring Mills as a Supervisor with 43 years of service. He was a member of the Gregg Township Fire Company and the Grace United Church of Christ in Spring Mills. Larry accepted the Lord in September of 1992. He enjoyed bowling, playing softball, gardening, maintaining his home inside and out, watching Dodger baseball, Penn State wrestling and football and Steeler football. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and drag racing his 409 Chevy. He loved to feed the birds in the winter and made a mean egg sandwich for the Church yard sales. With a hearing disability that made it hard for him to join in conversation, Larry still loved get together’s and spending time with family, going out to eat….especially Brother’s Pizza and working out at the YMCA before Covid.
Larry received a life-saving liver transplant March 16, 1995 in Pittsburgh which extended his life for 26 years. He will be remembered by family and friends as a hardworking man of honesty, reliability, generosity, and especially, as a faithful servant of the Lord.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by one sister, Patricia Eileen Berglin of Georgia; one brother, Tom J. Stitzer (Sharon) of Spring Mills; two sisters in law, Ginger Stitzer of Aaronsburg and Brenda A. Confer of Millheim, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
