Lorraine Cato Obituary

Lorraine M. Cato, of Chambersburg, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2020 at The UPMC West Shore Hospital Emergency Room in Harrisburg.  She was 86.

Born November 19, 1933 in Aaronsburg, Lorraine was a daughter of the late Henry W. and Tammie T. (Stover) Gramley. 

Lorraine was a 1951 graduate of East Penns Valley High School.  She then attended the Lock Haven School of Nursing and graduated from there in 1954.  Lorraine was employed for a year at the former Bellefonte Hospital before joining the U.S. Air Force.  After basic training, she was stationed in Tucson, AZ.  There she met and married Carl Cato on March 8, 1957.  Carl passed away in 1999.

Lorraine was employed as an OB Nurse for many years.  She and Carl traveled all over the world before finally settling in Chambersburg in 1983.  Lorraine worked with the Keystone Health Migrant Program and traveled to migrant camps to help with medications.  She was a member of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church where she was very active with church activities, especially the choir.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafts and gardening.

Lorraine is survived by one daughter, Nanci Niebauer of Chambersburg; one son, James C. Cato of Panama City, FL; two sisters, Ruth Besecker (Ed) and Ethel  Rote both of Millheim; two brothers, Russell Gramley of San Antonio, TX and Robert Gramley of Troy, AL.  Also surviving are grandchildren, Suzie Lear, Chris Niebauer (Tiffany), Callie Hart (Wes), Casey Kramer (Justin) and Mark Cato along with great grandchildren, Quinn Lear, Makayla Niebauer, Kaleb Niebauer, Mason Niebauer, Lillian Hart and Jay Kramer. 

A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home on Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 1-2 pm with the memorial service following at 2 pm.  Lorraine will be laid to rest in Stover Cemetery in rural Aaronsburg.
