Gale H. Machamer, 90, of Rebersburg, passed from this life on Friday, May 13th at Salem Hill Haven in Spring Mills. Born June 20, 1925 in Coburn, Gale is a son of the late Joseph and Iva “Harter” Machamer. He was a 1943 graduate of the East Penns Valley High School. Gale served his country as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army for 2 years, 1 ½ years of which was spent in England, France, Belgium & Germany. Upon his arrival home, Gale met and married his wife, the former Luella Musick on June 30, 1948.
In addition to his wife, Gale is survived by a special niece, Trina Miller and her husband Gene, whom Gale and Luella consider their adopted son. Also surviving is a special friend, Helen Westervelt of Alaska, whom Gale and Luella met in North Dakota, on their way to Alaska, while Helen was biking to Alaska. Later when they arrived in Alaska their paths crossed again and a lasting friendship was born. In addition, Gale is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Gale and his wife built their own home in Rebersburg. He worked as a plumber for 5 years before being employed at the former Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven, retiring from there with 33 years of service. Gale enjoyed hunting and fishing from a young age, catching trophy walleye in Canada. In their later years Gale and Luella began traveling to Alaska where they spent 3 months salmon fishing. They made 14 trips altogether.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 20 from 7-8 pm at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The memorial service will follow at 8pm with Rev. Charlie Stump officiating. In recognition of Gale’s military service, he will receive full military honors. Gale is laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Millheim.
