John C. Devinney

John C. Devinney, 86, of Spring Mills, passed away on Monday, July 18th at Juniper Village in State College.  Born January 6, 1930 in Spring Mills, John is a son of the late John A. and Lillian V.E. (Carson) Devinney.  On July 25, 1951, John married Janet L. Wasson who survives at their home in Spring Mills. 

John was a graduate of the Centre Hall-Potter High School.  He and Janet farmed in Gregg Township for many years.  After he sold the farm, John worked on the road crew for Gregg Township, retiring from there in 2010.  John was a former Deacon of the Salem United Church of Christ in Spring Mills where he was a member.  He was also a member of the Nittany Antique Machinery Association, Good Sam RV Club and The National Young Farmers Coalition.  John enjoyed camping and playing cards.

In addition to his wife Janet, John is survived by six daughters, Joan Helmrich (Robert) of South Williamsport, Janice Wert (John) of Spring Mills, June Irwin (Tom) of Centre Hall, Jill Leitch (Ed) of Spring Mills, Jackie Decker (Randy) also of Spring Mills, and Julie Leitch (Chris) of Centre Hall; one son, John Devinney (Diann) of Centre Hall; 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.  Also surviving are siblings, Josephine Keller of Luzerne, James DeVinney (Connie) of North Carolina, Richard DeVinney and Dallas DeVinney (Diane) both of Bellefonte.  John was preceded in death by one daughter, Jane M. Stover Ricker and one brother, Charles DeVinney. 

All services will be private.  John will be laid to rest in Salem U.C.C Cemetery in Spring Mills.  Contributions in memory of John may be given to the Salem United Church of Christ, c/o Helen Sweeley, 125B Brush Mountain Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
